Seongnam City adds AI sorting robots from the Public Procurement Service to the recycling sorting center…increasing from 2 to 3 by the end of the year

The AI-based resource sorting robots of Seongnam City are being additionally installed at the recycling sorting center in Yatap-dong, Bundang-gu.

 According to Seongnam City on the 15th, this sorting robot (2.6m wide, 2.2m long, 3.3m high) is made of metal and is worth about 270 million won. It has a suction cup at the end of its robotic arm that automatically sorts 4 types of recyclable plastic waste.

The city received the robot after being selected for this year's '1st Innovation Product Pilot Purchase Project' announced by the Public Procurement Service. The pilot purchase project for innovative products is a system in which the Public Procurement Service purchases innovative products from venture companies and provides them to public institutions to verify and share quality and performance.

Seongnam City was selected as a demand-matching organization due to its current resource circulation policies and conditions for participation in the pilot usage.

The city plans to install the sorting robot at the recycling sorting center around June and operate it in a pilot program until October. Once the evaluation of operational results and other procedures are completed, ownership of the robot will transfer to Seongnam City by the end of the year.

Afterward, the number of resource sorting robots operating within the recycling sorting center will increase from the current 2 to 3, and the amount of recyclable plastic waste sorted will expand from 1.2 tons to 1.8 tons per day.

A Seongnam City official said, “It will help venture companies expand their market and reduce carbon emissions.”
